Community

As part of our company’s mission, New Holland Pictures looks for opportunities to help build the filmmaking community we belong to, at a local and state level, and beyond.

SOS - Scripts Off Southgate

New Holland Pictures is running a series of script reading avenings at an outdoor venue in Cannon Hill for scriptwriters to share their stories, hear their work performed by actors, get constructive feedback and to network with the wider filmmaking community.

Scripts Off Southgate re-launches with a Halloween-themed night commencing Tuesday 11th October 2011 and will be held every four months.

Scripts Off Southgate aims to not only help improve films by Brisbane filmmakers, but to be a creative night once a month, where the art of writing and film will be discussed, preformed, devolved and celebrated. It will be a night actors can perform in front of an audience, writers can share sneak previews of their stories with intimate audiences and the audience can share their views and opinions with both the writers and actors.

The general public is welcome to attend.

Participation:

Writers are being invited to bring their scripts along to the night according to the theme of the night. We aim to read four scripts per session, maximum of 20 minutes each. This means we can read short film scripts, but for feature and drama scripts, we'll only be able to read a number of scenes. So the writer needs to nominate the part of their script they'd like read and discussed. Then on the night the writer will introduce their reading, give our audience a background on the story, and be available for feedback after the reading.

In all, it promises to be a fun and creatively-charged evening.

Aims:

  • Encourage and promote Brisbane film writers and Brisbane stories
  • To inspire an active, thriving and creative script writing community in  Brisbane.
  • To create an informal forum for script writers to share their stories and receive constructive feedback, encouragement and advice.
  • To help script writers develop and improve storylines, characters, plots and themes.
  • To provide a networking opportunity for writers, producers, diretors and crew.
  • To offer all Brisbane residets a chance to be part of the film making process.

Legal & Copyright:

All scripts performed at the Venue are original works of the Authors and contain original and confidential ideas that are not in the public domain.

It is a condition of entry to Scripts Off Southgate that participants, including audience members, agree that they shall not infringe the Author's copyright in the works nor make any disclosure or other use of confidential ideas and material contained in the works.
