Q. A few weeks after painting
my bedroom I started to
notice the paint was peeling
and blistering! What have I
done wrong?
A. Blistered paint can be caused by several
reasons; moisture, sunlight or bad preparation.
- The first step in avoiding moisture blisters is to stop the water infiltration. Look for bad caulking or flashing, or maybe a plumbing leak.
- Avoid temperature blisters by painting when the cool surface won’t be hit by the sun for at least a few hours.
- Repair both types of blistering by scraping the bad paint, and sanding and feathering the edges before you prime and repaint.
