Resurrect the Citrus Orchard

The new citrus orchard at Our Place

Geoff discovered an overgrown citrus orchard, comprising a grapefruit, lime and mandarin at the front of the section.

These trees were in desperate need for some TLC.  Firstly Geoff removed any trees and shrubs that were crowding out the orchard.

Secondly, he clipped the fruit trees back into shape and removed any deadwood or unsightly branches, making sure to protect the raw ends with Yates Bacseal Super pruning paste.

The trees are sprayed with a mixture of Copperoxichloride, to attack the Veracosa virus, and  conqour oil to get rid of mites and scale.

It is important to spray up and under the leaves, and remember don’t spray within four weeks of harvesting the fruit.

The base of your trees should be cleared grass as both the grass and the trees compete for the same nutrients. Sprinkle around the base of each tree to the dripline, with Thrive citrus fertiliser and Epsom salts – the latter helping return the trees’ leaf appearance from yellow to a healthy green.

Finally, placing a good quality bark under the tree (but not too close to the trunk) will continue to deter the grass.

Geoff also added a lime and a double grafted apple tree (granny smith and golden delicious varieties on the one tree) ensuring us a rich bounty of fruit for years to come.
