| Highlighting the diamonds in a DIY disaster zone

The renovations of Our Place is not going to happen over night. We are realistically pacing ourselves as any home owner would, and in doing so, we can give handy tips on how to cover up the DIY, so any visitors that drop by, will be none the wiser to the work going on around them.
At the start of the series Our Place is in a bit of a mess. The walls are covered in blotchy plaster and holes, the carpet pulled up in places and some of the doors are missing. With visitors expected Our Place Interior Designer Geoff Burton was the man for the moment. With the help of Freedom Furniture, Geoff decided to embrace the house’s 1960’s origins, and create a 1960’s retro-style lounge room, making the best of what he had to work with.
Strong colours are a feature of the 60s, so we’ve gone with bright fuchia and lime for this room; starting with the floor, a white shaggy rug is off set with two bright round rugs fushia and lime, of course.
A standard light adds ambiance, as does a small tripod side table. Continuing with the same dominant colours, bean bags, one of each with shaggy cushions line one wall, and to prove you cant have enough red, we added a cool fuchia retro sofa, that converts to a day bed.
The large glass top table dominates the centre of the room, and is perfect for
displaying your magazines. The low white entertainment unit, probably wasn’t around in the 60s but it should have been. Place your TV. on top, all the DVDs, videos, and “stuff” in the draws.
Freedom brought along a selection or vases, and candles, they add the finishing touch to our retro room.
