Separation City review- Rip It Up Magazine
Separation City is a multicultural Kiwi film about relationships, adulteryand bad sex. It's part comedy and part drama and serves a lesson about the benefits of requited love versus unrequited love.
The 'man talk' in the film especially between Harry and Simon, is realistic, flithy and often hilarious. Most of the gags are great and revolve around awkward subjects like premature ejaculation and embarrassing condom mishaps. It's great to have a mature Kiwi comedy which respects its audience as adults - except in this one aspect.
It's not a laugh out loud from beginning to end as other big screen comedies this year are proving to be, but a lot of the funny bits are very funny indeed. The story gets pretty heavy handed towards the end, but it is generally charming and engaging. After a candlelit dinner, Separation City might just be ideal as a date movie this winter.
